  • What kind of music classes do you teach?
We teach almost all kinds of common music classes. Western and Indian. Vocals and Instruments - Classical and Contemporary.
  • What is the frequency of classes?
We teach classes once a week. Students can choose between offline and online classes.
  • Is once a week classes good enough to learn well?
Yes, it is. The key is to practice daily what you learn in class. Practicing daily for about 15 to 20 minutes will ensure good progress. If you really want to master the skill of playing a musical instrument, practice sessions are a necessity. Learning a musical instrument is related to the functionality of your muscle memory. Muscle memory is that long-term memory that helps us to perform a set of tasks upon repeatedly performing it. Playing an instrument does not require conscious thought but storing it in your muscle memory by repeating the same cycle over and over again. The more you practice, the more easily you seem to memorize your instrument-playing skills. When you play an instrument again and again, you are developing the skill set to synchronize your bodily movements required to play that instrument without any conscious thought. In the modern method of music teaching, it is recommended that schools host only 1 teaching session per week. WeGotGuru is one of the few schools in Bangalore that have employed this technique and have yielded fruits of success. Students who are experts in playing different instruments after training with us for the past 4-5 years are testimony to the aforesaid method.
  • How long will it take for me to get to a good level in a music class?
It could be 6 months or a few years. This will be determined by the practice time you put in, how much of related music you listen to, and your musical abilities.

  • What's the difference between offline and online classes?
Offline classes are group classes with a batch of 4-5 students and these sessions are 1 hour long. The online classes are private 1-on-1 classes with each session being 30-40 mins in duration. Also, in online classes, you have the opportunity to screen record your class sessions which you can later on as references for any doubts that'll you've have on the lesson taught.
  • Why is it insisted that only 4 or 5 students should be included in a batch?
This is a modern method of teaching different from that of other music schools where they encompass almost 10 students per batch.Teachers can give Individual attention to the students this way whereas students can focus on their lessons more without much distraction. At the same time, the presence of 4-5 students in a batch encourages cross learning culture. The classes are always lively and students would enjoy the process of learning from each other. WGG has yielded good results with the above methodology of teaching and would recommend the same for a longer time to come.
  • How can I prepare for offline classes?
You can prepare for offline classes by bringing the required study materials the teacher has asked to bring like your notebooks, pens and, your instrument. In the case of drums, students must bring their own pair of drumsticks. Also, make sure you've practiced the previous lessons given by the teacher. You can also bring water bottles and snacks for yourself, to have prior or post classes.
  • How can I prepare for online classes?
To ensure a good online class session, you must have a good internet connection to avoid any latency or lags. You will beed a working pc, laptop, tablet or phone to attend the online class session. It will be better if you have a quiet place with little to no distractions so you can focus on your class. Also, keep your instrument, notebooks, pens etc, ready for the class. Also, make sure you've practiced the previous lessons given by the teacher.
  • You have so many teachers, how do I choose the one that would suit my needs?
You can discuss your requirements with us and we allot the teacher best suited for your needs.
  • What are the class timings? Do they have flexibility?
We teach during the weekdays and weekends. The school is off on Tuesdays. With many teachers, we offer various class timings based on the preference of student & availability of the student,
  • Is there a group or community I can join to keep in touch with my batch mates and teacher?
Yes, we do have WhatsApp class groups where students, parents, and teachers can participate in. These groups are designed to share information, doubts, assignments, assessments, and announcements. You can use the group to inform the teacher if you will not be attending class or to plan a compensation class.
  • How do compensation classes work?
The student has to pay the full month's fees even if they happen to miss out on some classes in a month. The school provides them time and opportunity to make up for the missed classes as long as the fee payments are made in a timely manner. The teachers would provide makeup classes on other days of the week when they have free time slots. The student and the respective teacher will have to discuss amongst themselves and find a convenient timing. Thus the classes missed by the student are compensated. If the student misses 2 months of class, then he/she would have to re-register before joining the class.
  • Will all the students in a batch be taught the same lesson every week?
Yes the learning material would be the same but the progress of the sessions differs based on the individual learning curve. The time required to cover a lesson may vary depending on his/her own personal abilities. Some students might learn quicker than others so the teachers would make them progress to the next level. They would help the students with lower pace to progress steadily as well. To be a good performer, how efficiently one practices an instrument matters more than how fast he/she picked up a lesson. Without repeated practice for 1 week, a student may fall short of understanding lessons taught in the next class.
  • Can we increase the frequency of classes?
Ideally, we encourage students to stick to 4 classes on a monthly schedule and it’s worked out well for most of them. In the case of some months, students also get a 5th class for free. For example, you take guitar lessons on Monday but instead of 4 Mondays, there are 5 Mondays that month. In the case of students needing extra classes, we can arrange for that by discussing it with the concerned teacher. Depending on the frequency of the classes, the fees will vary.
  • Is there a set syllabus for the courses?
Yes, we follow the Trinity syllabus primarily. We also train students under the ABRSM and the LCM (London College of Music) syllabuses. For Indian Classical Music, We follow the syllabus of particular boards, like the Bangiya Sangeet Parishat.
  • What payment modes do you accept?
The modes of payment are - Cash, Card(Credit/Debit), Bank Transfers, UPI payments, Googlepay, Phonepe, Paytm etc.
  • Why do western music classes cost more compared to Indian classical music classes?
In Bangalore, generally, teachers who train students in western music are not easily available. In WGG, we have Trinity-qualified teachers who have specialized in Rock and Pop or Western classical. They are performers and part of music bands. Western vocal classes are sought out by young adults as well as children. Since the teachers provide quality education it's a fair concept they demand a good amount of pay.
  • Isn't the fee high for 4-5 classes a month?
The general feedback from our students is that the fee is quite economical when compared to the quality of the education we provide. We have highly qualified teachers, spacious rooms to conduct classes and for students to practice, good infrastructure, Trinity certifications, a library of important musical books, and systematic teaching methods. We need to raise funds for employing superior faculty, modern technology, and cameras for recording Youtube videos, and supplying students with great facilities, instruments, and books. So the school believes the totality of the above-mentioned factors warrant the fee rate we adhere towards.
  • When do I pay the fees?
Fee payments should be made before the 15th of every month, ideally within it’s first week. This helps us process and pay the teachers on time. For late payments, we charge a fine of Rs. 200. It’s in our interest to not have the fine but we have to have it to avoid parents who tend to pay late, consistently.
  • In case of a long break and a month's fee paid in full, what do you do?
The school provides them time and opportunity to make up for the missed classes as long as the fee payments are made in a timely manner. The teachers would provide makeup classes on other days of the week when they have free time slots. The student and the respective teacher will have to discuss amongst themselves and find a convenient timing. Thus the classes missed by the student are compensated. If the student misses 2 months of class, then he/she would have to re-register before joining the class.
  • Why do students have to pay registration fees?
WeGotGuru has quality education and good infrastructure high on its priority list. The registration fee obtained adds to the funding required to hire experienced teachers and avail their services consistently available, to maintain a good infrastructure for the school, to update the musical instruments to most modern ones to keep the library updated with a wide range of musical books that would help in building the passion of students towards music.
  • Does WeGotGuru provide certifications?
For Western music, we are partnered with the Trinity College of London for certification. We also train for the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music), and the LCM (London College of Music) certification exams. For Indian music, we help prepare students for popular boards like the Bangiya Sangeet Parishat for Hindustani vocals.
  • What is analogous to the Trinity board in case of Indian Classical Music?
Bangiya Sangeet Parishat for Hindustani vocals. The school is not an examination center or has any preset courses based on the particular syllabus for the students to learn. But our teachers would be willing to train the students according to the required curriculum upon request.
  • What are the assessments done by school prior to preparing students for Trinity examination?
The teachers train students according to the curriculum prescribed by Trinity. Our library has a collection of original Trinity books that help in guiding students for their grade examinations. We conduct regular assessment tests and monthly recitals which help in the preparation for the final round of examinations. We inform students beforehand abt the essential things required to present in the exam including the dress code. As you might know, our school is an exam center for Trinity and they have been appreciative of the way we conduct examinations in a timely manner, without any chaos, in a calm environment which makes the overall experience stress free for our students as well. So far WeGotGuru has been able to generate some of the best Trinity results amongst all Bangalore music schools.
  • Can Trinity exam fee be submitted through the school instead of approaching Trinity board directly?
Yes, the Trinity exam fee can be remitted to the school. You would have to pay Rs 300 in addition to the exam fee if you are registering via school. Otherwise, the school can provide you the address of the Trinity office and its administrator to whom you have to reach out for registering directly for the examinations.
  • Why is Trinity prescribed as the primary syllabus instead of ABRSM?
Trinity syllabus includes a stream of varied genres while ABRSM is mostly focused on the classical genre of music. Students might find the versatile topics part of the Trinity syllabus more interesting than ABRSM. Another reason is Trinity certifications are more popularized and recognized when it comes to earning external credits for seeking admission to foreign universities.
  • How can one appear for the Trinity board through WeGotGuru?
WeGotGuru is a Trinity examination center in Bangalore. Hence students can also register for the Trinity board examinations through our school. Trinity examinations are conducted twice a year for both theory and practical. Examiners arrive from Trinity College of Music, London to our school to evaluate the students. We follow the Trinity curriculum as our primary syllabus as well. You can join our Trinity program where teachers train the students for the grade examinations. The training will be based on the Trinity grade books and regular assessments will be done based on the collection of question papers from the past 5 years. We also conduct recitals on stage in front of a small section of the audience 2 weeks before the exams to prepare students to face the final round. The students who pass the evaluation tests by the Trinity would be awarded certificates by the board.
